We wanted to make one whole page dedicated to the two hottest selling tablets, the Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet. The reason for this is because we think they are going to be a HUGE HIT! Here you will find our Kindle Fire review, and our Nook Tablet review.
Kindle Fire Review & Nook Tablet Review
When reviewing the Kindle Fire, you have to compare it to all the other tablets out there. However, the price is a gamer changer for many, so we will highlight the Nook Tablet vs Kindle Fire only, since the others are twice as expensive. First, check out a great video that highlights some great features. This video will highlight everything you need to know about the Kindle Fire, and the information below will explain the Fire even more thoroughly.

Pros and Cons of the Nook Tablet vs Kindle Fire
Let’s add up the pros and cons of each tablet and see who comes out on top! I will score each one for a separate category, so you can choose one or the other if one particular category is more important to you. Also, I will include my overall opinion, and show the final score for a winner.
Movies & TV
The Kindle Fire uses it’s Amazon Prime Membership to deliver unparalleled commercial free TV shows and movies. You receive a 1 month trial when you buy the Fire, and that is how they show you can’t have the Fire without it. The Nook Tablet utilizes the popular Netflix and Hulu Plus which are both pre-loaded on your Nook Tablet and come with free trials as well. When you get the Amazon Prime membership, you also get a ton of stuff with 2 day shipping, and access to tons of TV shows and movies for just one year fee of $79. We aren’t sure how much the the Nook is offering Netflix and Hulu Plus for, but Netflix’s website lists their price as $8/mo which is $96 for one year. We will update this information as soon as it is available, but since Nook isn’t highlighting it as one of their pluses, we can assume this battle is one by the Fire. *Update* Amazon just announced that they will be pre-load Pandora, Hulu Plus, Facebook, Rhapsody, Netflix, ESPN Score Center, and more. This is a game changer since they are allowing you to go far outside the Amazon store. This could completely destroy the Nook Tablet since that was the one critique of the Kindle Fire.
Winner: Kindle Fire
Books and Reading
It appears to be a tie in this category. Both the Nook Tablet and the Kindle Fire have books available that are cheaper than typical physical books (hard/soft cover). They both offer millions of books to choose from including all the best sellers. I looked up about 2 dozen different books, and sometimes it was cheaper for the Kindle or the Nook by a few cents or at most a couple dollars. What about free books? It seems like both devices offer free books with Kindle’s “Lending Library”, giving you access to choose one popular book a month from a nice selection of books. The Nook Tablet has “Free Fridays”, which gives you free access to one book every Friday. Both programs aren’t offering many details, so after reading all the information, we give this a tie. One thing to take note about, if you really want to be reading a lot, we recommend the Kindle Touch. The reason for this is because the Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire both have back lit LCD screens which will wear on your eyes after a while. The e-ink technology reads like a book. Make sure to take this into consideration if your primary reason is to be reading.
Winner: Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet
Price
Kindle Fire is $199 and the Nook Tablet is $249.
Winner: Kindle Fire
Storage
Both the Nook Tablet and the Kindle Fire offer free cloud storage. When looking at the actual storage, you have to read the fine print at the bottom. That is why you come to an independent site like this, so you can be given the information without the sales pitch. The actual storage on the Nook Tablet is 13 GB of usable data storage, plus expandable SD storage. The Kindle Fire offers 6 GB of user storage. Amazon claims that it is enough storage for “That’s enough for 80 apps, plus 10 movies or 800 songs or 6,000 books.”. So, depending on how much rapidly available storage you need in areas that aren’t wifi capable will determine which is a better fit for you. A typical plane ride lasts 3-6 hours while a car ride with your kids in the back seat can last 10 mins to several hours for road trips. However, odds are you will be hitting a hot spot where you stay. Therefore, unless you plan on doing a ton of traveling, we recommend the Fire. However, if you plan on taking much longer trips where wifi isn’t available, go with the Nook Tablet.
Winner: Nook Tablet
Speed and Visual Display
Both are more than fast enough to do exactly what you want to do. That is, play games, watch movies, listen to music while you browse the web and much more. The visual display of both the Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet offer rich 16 million color 7″ screens. We see this as a dead-lock.
Winner: Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire
Audio
The Kindle Fire comes with top mounted stereo speakers, while the Nook Tablet comes with just a mono speaker on the side. Both come with stereo headphone jacks. If you plan playing videos and watching shows without headphones all the time, this could be an important factor in your decision.
Winner: Kindle Fire
Battery Life
The batter of the Kindle Fire lasts approximately 8 hours, while the Kindle Tablet lasts approximately 10 hours. These times vary depending on usage, wifi, and other factors. However, since they are fairly close, we consider this a tie.
Winner: Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet
Extra Cool Features
One thing that separates the Kindle Fire vs Nook Tablet is that you can be watching a movie on your Kindle on the bus or plane, and resume it exactly where you left off at when you get home ON YOUR TV! Using what Amazon calls “Whispersync” technology, this was a deal maker for me personally when deciding which to buy, so I had to add it here.
+1 Kindle Fire
Final Score – Nook Tablet vs Kindle Fire | Kindle Fire 7 – Nook Tablet 4
Overall the Kindle Fire is better than the Nook Tablet, and it is cheaper. We have to recommend the Kindle Fire as the best economical tablet available on the market today.
